Weisen Plantations is the story of almost 30 years of expertise.

After three decades of loyal service, the Weisen family decided to pass the torch to two enthusiasts, Bénédicte and Nicolas Etienne.

This French farming couple looks back on their love affair with the nursery.

Looking at the genesis of the Weisen plantations means going back in time to the 1980s.

The company, which specialises in landscaping, was founded in 1988 by René Weisen himself. But back then, the company did not look quite like the one we know today. “Mr. Weisen started the adventure alone, with his wheelbarrow as his only work tool. Today we are a company of about 30 people and we can do almost anything, from garden maintenance to the creation of a natural swimming pool to custom-made projects. Today, two site managers, a landscape architect and no less than 20 landscape gardeners and assistant gardeners work every day to stage and bring to life our customers’ green spaces,” explains Bénédicte Etienne.

Bénédicte is the new face of Weisen Plantations. Together with her husband, Nicolas, they decided to take over the reins of the company. Accompanied and supported by the Weisen family. “This transfer of power is the story of a phone call at Christmas. My husband is a forester and farmer. One winter evening we received a phone call. We were told that a parks and gardens business was up for grabs and that we had the profile. My husband and I met Mr. Weisen, and the connection was immediately made. As craftsmen, we quickly understood each other”, explains Benedict with a smile. The entrepreneur continues: “Afterwards, we had to take the plunge and start up. But fortunately we were able to count on Mr. Weisen and his sister to accompany us and give us the best advice. The transition is gradual. It’s like a parental relationship that has been established. This company is a real family.

Although the reins of the company are about to change, expertise will remain the key word, whatever happens. “Weisen Plantations has some great projects in the pipeline. And they will continue to serve their customers as best they can. “We have a big project that started this summer, the Gasperich Park. We are talking about no less than 16 hectares to be developed. It’s a project that should last 2 years. Alongside this, we really want to develop direct sales and services to individuals”, explains Bénédicte. She is joined by Lucas, the head nurseryman: “We can accompany all our customers in all their projects. Whether it’s a restaurant that wants to develop its terrace, or a bank that wants to maintain its park. As far as direct sales are concerned, we are a nursery, which means that customers can come and buy at retail. But here we will never let you walk around with a trolley and serve yourself without an advisor coming up to you. They’ll always come and give you directions, help and advice. That’s the love of the job.”
